Committees

The Education Committee:

The Education Committee is focused on the principals of community outreach. Its mission is  “To Advocate and provide the training necessary for the construction workers of tomorrow. “  The committee meets the fourth Tuesday of the month from noon to 1 pm at 1000 Apollo Way in the small conference room.

2011 Committee Chair: Gail Cochran, RCX Inc.

The Governmental Affairs Committee (G.A.C.):

The Governmental Affairs Committee is responsible for researching the pros and cons of local (Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Lake, Mendocino, Solano County) candidates, representing membership by affecting local public policy,  and maintaining working relationships with all local elected officials. Their resulting recommendations are brought forth to the board for approval and endorsement. They also oversee the distribution of the ECA’s PAC fund, making recommendations to the Board on how the monies should be distributed to candidates and/or causes.  The Governmental Affairs Committee was heavily involved in the local political arena in 2010 and will be seeking to replenish our PAC fund in 2011 in order to be very active in the important political races in 2012.

The Specifications Committee:

Spec Committee is the ECA’s most influential and far reaching committee in that it affects the policies and requirements set forth by local agencies. This committee bridges the gap between city and county agencies and the Engineering Construction Industry. It meets at the ECA, monthly or as necessary to discuss current issues. During the past year the Spec Committee worked on:

  • City of Santa Rosa: Ongoing Sewer, Water & Storm Drain Issues
  • "Or-Equal" clauses in Special Conditions of local specs
  • The City of Rohnert Park revised Storm Drain, Water, Sewer, and Street Standards
  • Researching "Local Hire" proposals being considered by the City of Santa Rosa being utilized as a resource for same
  • Countywide Dump Sites
  • Aggregate Concerns / Materials Disposal
  • Constrictive Specification requirements for long term guarantees by Sonoma County Water Agency on pond liners

In 2011, this Committee will continue to reach out to public agencies and respond as both a resource, and a proactive Committee to foster efficient Standard Plans and Specs by public agencies, and to foster communications with public officials to the good of the public, the industry, and the public agencies.

2011 Committee Chair: Dave Weller of FEDCO Construction

Community & Public Relations Committee:

The Community Relations Committee is one of  the ECA’s most rewarding Committees to be involved with as they continue to do great work to better those that need our help in our local communities.  This CR Committee also benefits all of the membership by their work in changing public perception of the industry from a negative one, to one that is caring and good stewards of our community and environment.
2011 Projects that the CR Committee is working on include:  Santa Rosa Boys and Girls Club in Montgomery Village, Grant School Track Project in Petaluma, our ongoing cleanup work called "Adopt A Space" on Guerneville Road in Santa Rosa, and several other projects.  In 2010, the Committee and generous members helped The Santa Rosa Tomayo House improve their facilities for troubled teenagers.
Members do not do this for the recognition-for that reason, we do not promote all the members that have contributed here.  Our members do their charity because it is the right thing to do to help others.

This committee meets quarterly or as necessary.

Public Officials Night:  April 7, 2011

Public Officials Night is a unique and unprecedented event, which seeks to bring together public officials and the construction industry in a casual forum of fun and entertainment. The goal of this event is to build bridges and relationships within the construction industry and the public departments it works with. The time commitment for the event is minimal as the evening is a simple and uncomplicated one to plan. However, the reward is great!

2011 Committee Chair: Dale Reitz, Royal Petroleum

Auction Committee: October 1, 2011

If you enjoy event planning and feel you have some creative input to give, then the Auction Committee is the place for you. This committee is responsible for planning the ECA’s largest and most successful fundraiser of the year. Many details go into the planning of this event!   The auction is in the fall but the planning starts in January.   This committee meets monthly, and then bi-monthly as the auction approaches.

Car Show Committee : Always Fathers Day!  June 19, 2011

If you attended the Car Show last year, then you know it was a blast and a huge success. The committee is always looking for a few extra hands to help in the planning. As always they are looking for new and exciting ways to make the event even more fun. The Car Show Committee meets monthly or as necessary beginning in early spring.

2011 Committee Chair: Mark Powell of City of Santa Rosa

Golf Committee: July 15, 2011

This event has become a local favorite.  For many, this is the top Golf Tournament to play in each year.  This is a major fundraiser for the ECA and sponsorships like this year's generous Showcase Sponsor-EPIC Insurance, is very much appreciated.  Get your 4-somes together early and enjoy the day up at the beautiful Windsor Golf course.  Teeoff is at 1pm but don't miss the bbq lunch beforehand.  Lots of special surprises you and your clients will enjoy.  Include an Elected Official in your group, and perhaps a client or two?

2011 Committee Chair: Nathan Ehni, Peterson Tractor
